Occupational Health and Safety Specialist

Job Summary

The primary objective of this position is to provide support for and implementation of the Occupational Health & Safety programs at Rhodes Technologies and Rhodes Pharmaceuticals

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Develop and/or modify Occupational Health and Safety Programs in accordance with current regulatory requirements or site specific needs. Key programs include:
    1. Safe Work Permit Programs
    2. Laboratory Safety and Hygiene
    3. Industrial Hygiene
    4. Biological Safety
    5. Incident Investigation
    6. Hazard Communication
    7. Emergency Response
    8. Provide oversight of Occupational Health and Safety programs including performing Safety and Health Program audits and inspections.
  2. Provide consultation relative to Occupational Health and Safety.
  3. Participate in site safety meetings.
  4. Provide and/or coordinate site safety and health training.
  5. Assist in evaluation of new compounds as they enter the facility to establish appropriate safety precautions.

Education and Experience

  • BS, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related discipline;
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Occupational Health and Safety with thorough working knowledge of 29 CFR 1910 and 1926;
  • Experience with Industrial Hygiene work practices and monitoring/sampling equipment.
  • Highly motivated individual with strong communication skills, computer skills and ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.

Knowledge and experience in the following areas is a strong plus:

  • Biological, chemical and radioactive materials and all associated risks and mitigation.
  • Potent and highly potent compounds.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

This position supports a broad spectrum of activities and knowledge in Occupational Health and Safety as it relates to chemical manufacturing operations, laboratory operations and administration. There is a great deal of direct interpersonal interaction which involves clear communication, an awareness of employee needs and concerns. This position requires an articulate individual that is highly knowledgeable in applicable requirements, able to influence others, and balance, prioritize and achieve multiple objectives. This position is responsible supporting multiple safety and health programs.
