R&D Pre-professional Intern

Job Summary

This Co-op position is within the Research and Development (R&D) department at the Rhodes Technologies Coventry Rhode Island site. The Co-op student is expected to work in a multidisciplinary team environment with other scientists specializing in both analytical and synthetic organic chemistry.  The R&D department is responsible for development of viable processes and associated analytical methodology required for the commercial GMP manufacture of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). 



Primary Responsibilities

  • Participate in the design and tactical execution of synthetic and/or analytical strategies to solve challenges related to synthetic execution and analysis
  • Operation of a safe laboratory, including handling, storage and use of all chemicals, reagents, intermediates and products
  • Awareness and ability to evaluate the hazards involved with working with specific chemicals; ability to recognize potential exposure issues.
  • Maintain synthetic and/or analytical instrumentation as per departmental guidelines

Proficient written, oral communication and documentation skills

Education and Experience

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student
  • Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry with experience (classroom and/or laboratory) in either analytical or organic chemistry fields.
  • Completion of at least freshman year of undergraduate academic program is required
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Experience in either (or both) analytical and/or synthetic organic chemistry laboratories.
  • Accomplished computer skills including Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point) and database experience. 

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Work or project assignments will be commensurate with the student's academic background to take advantage of their technical expertise and provide real life application of their classroom knowledge. At the same time, opportunities will be provided for students to expand their knowledge outside the boundaries of their classroom experiences.

Project assignments will have a direct impact on the work unit of others within Research and Development. The candidate will be expected to deliver on their objectives in a timely manner such that project goals and expectations are realized.
