Job Summary

To assist Vice President & General Counsel in addressing and resolving a wide range of legal issues facing Rhodes Pharmaceuticals L.P. and Rhodes Technologies (the “Companies”), including contracts with customers and suppliers, drafting and negotiating supply, licensing and business-development agreements, compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, FDA and DEA requirements pertaining to products and processes, providing legal counsel to Human Resources in connection with labor and employment issues, and working with IP Counsel to further the Companies’ intellectual property portfolio.  

Primary Responsibilities
  1. Reporting to Vice President & General Counsel, Rhodes Technologies and Rhodes Pharmaceuticals L.P. and responsive to the needs of the officers of Rhodes Pharmaceuticals L.P. and Rhodes Technologies; the position will focus on the activities listed below as well as others assigned from time to time.
  2. Prepare contracts and perform other legal-related activities in support of business operations.
  3. Keep abreast of developments in the law affecting the Companies and their policies and procedures; conduct legal research and advise General Counsel and other officers and management on law.
  4. Provide advice, education, training, and legal direction on a myriad of pharmaceutical-related legal matters. This includes regulatory advice, FDA labeling and promotional matters, healthcare fraud and abuse laws, compliance matters, antitrust, pricing and contracting, document retention, privacy and other laws impacting the commercialization of pharmaceutical products.
  5. Support pharmaceutical product development, regulatory and sales and marketing teams in growing the Companies’ businesses.


Education and Experience
  1. Undergraduate and Law Degrees; undergraduate degree most preferably in a chemistry-oriented or life-sciences field of study, or engineering; admission to, and membership in good standing of, the bar of at least one state, and eligibility to be admitted as “in-house counsel” in Rhode Island.
  2. Requires 6 or more years of legal experience in a top law firm and /or corporate in-house position

Must have experience advising pharmaceutical or biotech company in commercial, clinical, intellectual property and / or regulatory area. Significant experience with contractual issues is desired.

  1. Solid grasp of basic legal tenets involving contractual agreements and intellectual property law, and ability to learn and expand knowledge in these areas.  Experience in advising a generic pharmaceutical company is highly desirable.  Background in FDA, CMS, patent law or environmental law, a plus. 
  2. Excellent writing and communications skills.
  3. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and directional skills.
  4. Excellent judgment.
  5. The applicant must be a team player, self-motivated, able to demonstrate a history of successfully resolving challenging legal issues, and be able to effectively deliver sound and clear legal advice in a business setting. Strong ability to counsel and advise the Company, even in the face of diverse opinion.


Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

This position requires creative problem-solving capabilities. The work is fast-paced with constantly changing issues. The scope of tasks is broad due to the complexity of the pharmaceutical industry and continuous interaction with various clientele, including operations, finance, technical, and senior-management personnel.

Additional Information

Reports directly to the V.P. & General Counsel, and must be responsive to the business needs identified/expressed by the heads of Rhodes Pharmaceuticals L.P. and Rhodes Technologies.

The position will require interaction with individuals throughout the organization, as well as with Purdue Pharma L.P. officers, attorneys and staff as well as attorneys, officers and staff of associated and independent companies.
